Keeping it Small and Simple for the Joy of Sketching
I love to Sketch and believe that Sketching should be FUN!
I’ve taught for over thirty years and after all this time I’ve come to believe that everyone can sketch! Keeping it simple, and small, is a great way to find the joy in sketching.
Subjects don’t have to be “grand” or “important” to be “worthy” of a sketch. A tissue box, sneakers, a rocking chair, a person in the coffee shop, your stovetop, whatever you choose is “important” because you chose it, and it’s a trail of your exploration of your world, no outside validation necessary.
Supposedly Mark Twain offered the phrase, “Sing like no one is listening, love like you’ve never been hurt, dance like no one is watching, and live like it is heaven on earth.” With that in mind, try to put aside all the inner and outer critics and allow yourself to enjoy the process. Sketching doesn’t have to be a competitive sport, have fun and sketch like no one will ever see what you do!
If you think my approach might be of interest to you or your organization, please feel free to contact me about the possibility of a presentation or workshop.
“I have learned that what I have not drawn I have never really seen,
and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing,
I realize how extraordinary it is,
sheer miracle.”

Presentations/Workshops
Thank you for taking time to look at this work! For the last several years I've led a short sketching workshop at the Franciscan Life Process Center in Lowell, MI, as well as giving a number of sketching presentations in Ohio and New York. If you think my approach might be useful to you or your organization, I would welcome the opportunity to share whatever I've learned. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss the possibility of a presentation or workshop, please get in touch to find out more.
